This is one huge Tarantula! It is also known as the Chinese Bird Spider (ornithoctonus huwena). It was given this name because it is big enough to catch and kill a small bird, and has been seen doing so. It is one of the most venomous spiders in China and can kill a mouse or small bird in less than 2 minutes. This species is distributed in the hilly area of Yunnan and Guangxi in the south of China.

Little is known about the toxins from its venom, which is neurotoxin. In front of this tarantulas legs are two leg-like appendages called pedipalps which is used as feelers. The silk it spins for its web is uniquely fine where the diameter is in nanometer scale.

This large spider in resin is definitely an attention getter and a wonderful piece for any collection. Being encased in crystal clear resin, you can view every little detail from all angles, including its huge fangs.

As with all spiders in resin, size shape and positioning can vary slightly. Resin block measures approx. 5 1/4 inches tall by 3 1/2 inches wide.
