This large, interesting sea creature is a Japanese Mantis Shrimp (oratosquilla oratoria) The smallest of details on this real shrimp in resin can be closely studied from all angles. This is the perfect unique piece for any aquatic decor, or makes for an excellent teaching aid.
This species of Mantis Shrimp is found in the Western Pacific and is widely harvested in Japan for food. In more recent years it has been introduced to other regions, such as Australia, where it is considered an invasive species. The name Mantis Shrimp is due to its long, powerful front ‘mantis-like arms.’ It is a predator who’s main diet consist of invertebrates and small fish.
As with all natural specimens in resin, size, shape and coloration can vary slightly. We guarantee a quality specimen, lucite block measures approx. 5 1/2 inches tall, by 2 1/2 inches wide, and 3/4of an inch thick.
