This small yet captivating specimen is a Chinese red-headed centipede, (Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans) it is a centipede from East Asia that can grow up to eight inches in length. It’s habitat is in damp environments, the females are incubatoral. They will guard their eggs by wrapping their bodies around their clutches until they hatch.
In ancient Chinese medicine, it was believed to have healing properties. Putting a Chinese red head centipede on a rash is said to speed up the healing process. It is believed that a roasted and dried centipede can be pulverized and used for treating back pain.
This real centipede in resin is a welcome addition to any insect collection. The clear lucite is very durable and make it easy to study this unique insect.
This miniature resin block measures approximately 1 1/2 inch square and 1/2 thick. Your purchase will come boxed with a nice little organza bag. As with all real insects in resin, size, coloration and positioning can vary slightly.
