The Chinese red-headed centipede, (Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans) is a centipede from East Asia that can grow up to eight inches in length. It can be found in damp environments, the females are incubatoral. They will guard their eggs by wrapping their bodies around their clutches until they hatch.
In ancient Chinese traditions, it was believed to have healing properties. Putting a Chinese red head centipede on a rash is said to speed up the healing process. In Korea, the roasted dry centipede is pulverized and used for the treatment of back pain.
This real centipede in resin is an eye-catcher and great addition to any insect collection. The clear lucite is very durable and make it easy to study this unique insect.
As with all real insects in resin, size, coloration and positioning can vary slightly. Lucite block measures approx. 4 1/2 inches tall by 1 3/4 inches wide.
