That loud insect chirping you hear on those long summer days, those are Cicada. But this particular cicada (Vittagaeana paviei) is from Asia and China and have vibrant colorful wings, which rival the beauty of butterfly wings.

Cicadas have been classified as the worlds loudest insect. If you have ever heard a Cicada, you will notice that they often sing in chorus, this is believed to be a defense technique. The sound makes it hard for predators to locate just one individual. They spend most of their lives underground as nymphs. Depending on the species, they can live this way for 6 – 17 years. Once they emerge as adults their life span is very short, usually only living a few weeks.
