All locusts are grasshoppers, but not all grasshoppers are locusts. This real locust in resin is Chondracris rosea in the family Cyrtacanthacridinae. It has record distribution and can be found in India, Malaysia, and China.
Locust are solitary insects typically found hopping around grassy fields. But, factors such as weather, geographic region and species can force them to crowd together. When this happens their serotonin levels rise, and they begin to swarm.
When locust swarm there can be as many as 31 million locusts per square mile and swarms as big as 460 square miles. They can demolish crops and farmlands. There are thousands of species of locusts and grasshoppers and 50 are considered major pests.
Like all insects in resin, the size, positioning and coloration can vary slightly. We guarantee a quality specimen. Lucite block measures approx. 4 1/2 inches tall by 1 3/4 inches wide.
