Spine-Tufted Skimmer Dragonfly in Resin, Orthetrum chrysis
28.00 – 30.50
Description
This is a Spine-Tufted Skimmer Dragonfly encased in resin, sometimes called a Brown-Backed Red Marsh Hawk. Adult dragonflies are recognized by their large, multifaceted compound eyes, two pairs of strong, transparent wings, and an elongated body. Their wings are held flat, horizontal to their body during rest and flight. Most dragonflies live in tropical regions near wetlands, which is needed for egg laying.
Fossils of very large dragonfly-like insects, from around 325 million years ago have been found. These are sometimes called griffin flies, and had wingspans up to about 30 inches.
Lucite block measures approximately 3 inches square. Add a nice finishing touch to your preserved dragonfly with an optional display stand. Made of clear acrylic, this stand really enhances the piece, giving it a nice viewing angle.
As with all real insects specimens in resin, size, coloration and positioning can vary slightly.
Not quite the vibrant red I was expecting however their service, timely replies, and help has been above and beyond.
